President Moon Jae-in stressed that supporting peace and prosperity across the Korean Peninsula is “sound security” as he attended the 74th graduation and commission ceremony at the Korea Military Academy, in Seoul on March 6.
With about 2,000 people in attendance, including a total of 223 military officers and their families, President Moon emphasized that a strong military and security posture is essential and that, “Peace is our survival and a necessary condition for our prosperity. Without a strong military and a solid defense, we cannot defend peace across the region.”
President Moon said that to achieve the goal of denuclearization on the peninsula, the Korean government must fulfill its capabilities to respond to nuclear weapons and missiles and cyber attacks by North Korea, and strengthen the Korea-U.S. joint defense posture, as well as pursue dialogue with Pyongyang.
Mentioning the South Korean presidential delegation to North Korea that met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un a day earlier, the president said that a journey toward peace and prosperity has now begun. “Hopefully, the dreams of these up-and-coming officers in charge of the nation’s security will be met with the dreams of the people who desire peace, and will reach the goal of achieving a peninsula with peace and prosperity.”
