Chinese Ambassador to Korea Qui Guohong on Jan. 22 said bilateral ties "have returned to the right track of improvement and development," adding, "Chinese President Xi Jinping’s concept of the 'community of common destiny for humankind' and President Moon Jae-in's policy of 'inclusive growth' have many similar points."
In a column titled "Sino-Korean relations see a better tomorrow" on The People’s Daily of China, the diplomat wrote, "2018 was a special year for Sino-Korean relations and bilateral ties have entered a more stable and sound era."
Reflecting on his five years as ambassador in Seoul and bilateral relations since the two countries formed official ties in 1992, Qui said, "Sino-Korean ties have contributed to establishing peace and security on the Korean Peninsula, not to mention global peace and prosperity."
He also cited the Chinese proverb "There's always a rainbow after a rainstorm" and the Korean maxim "Ground hardens after rain," adding, "The relationship has seen peaks and valleys but these form the experience and lessons needed to strengthen ties in better ways."
Qui urged both countries to "find solutions through dialogue" and "interact from a strategic and long-term perspective and respect each other's core profits and concerns."
The two countries share similar interests and goals as both are beneficiaries of free trade and the globalized economy, he added. "Given the global trends of unilateralism and protectionism, Korea and China should reinforce joint action to strive for a better future for themselves and the global economy," he said.
