With only a few days left until the 2019 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)-ROK (Republic of Korea) Commemorative Summit, a detailed schedule and a list of events on the sidelines of the summit was announced on Nov. 20 by Cheong Wa Dae.
Presidential Adviser for Economic Affairs Joo Hyung-chul, said, "As announced by President Moon Jae-in in last week's Cabinet meeting, the upcoming summit will be a midterm review of the New Southern Policy. The summit will culminate in a joint statement that will serve as the basis for future cooperation between Korea and ASEAN member countries."
"Another joint statement that outlines cooperation projects between Korea and ASEAN in three areas -- policy and security, economy, and society and culture -- will also be announced."
Joo also stressed that the summit will cover cooperation in information and communications technology, smart cities and infrastructure, vocational training, official development assistance and defense industries, adding, "Around 50 special events related to these cooperation areas will open on the sidelines of the summit."
The events include a groundbreaking ceremony for Busan's Eco Delta Smart City and a CEO summit, a ministerial smart city meeting, and a startup expo and summit between Korea and ASEAN.
