The inaugural Korean Government Innovation Exhibition opened on Nov. 22 at Seoul's Dongdaemun Design Plaza, highlighting government innovation accomplished during the first half of President Moon Jae-in's administration.
To run through Nov. 24, the event is being held under the slogan "Innovation Done Together, a Future Opened Together" and seeks to share with the people the administration's achievements and lay out its goals.
Kim Seong-jung, director-general of the Government Innovation Planning Bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, announced the administration's main accomplishments at the opening ceremony. He cited as examples of regulatory innovation the "mutual kitchen," in which multiple business licensees can cook in one place, and the "empty playground," which is made from recycled waste, to resolve social issues.
"We will continue to uphold fairness and tolerance as the main goals of government policy," he said, adding, "We will carry out innovation with the people and make a better future."

Minister of the Interior and Safety Chin Young also mentioned "Gwanghwamoon 1st Street," a communication channel implemented in 2017 to enable the people to voice their policy proposals, and Civic Participatory Budget, a program in which citizens participate in the government's budget assessment process.
"Over the past 2 1/2 years, the administration has steadfastly worked toward government innovation. We hope that many people visit this exhibition, experience firsthand the government's main accomplishments in innovation and share their opinions," he said.
The exhibition is composed of All Together Happiness Center, which displays social value policy, Anyone Digital Center, which highlights digital service policy, and Everyone's Participation Center, which features policies enabling and fostering civic participation in policymaking.
Visitors can also experience firsthand the 59 innovation results of 80 government organizations, including offices of the central and local governments.
