Korea will share its know-how in smart city water management with one of its New Northern Policy partner countries, Uzbekistan.

The Korea Water Resources Corp. (K-water) on May 10 said it started an online class series on boosting water and resource circulation capacity in a smart city for 25 technical staff at the Central Asian country's Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Housing and Communal Services.

Uzbekistan is struggling with shortages and contamination of water resources and deterioration of related infrastructure due to urbanization. K-water will use as a case study Busan Eco Delta Smart City's water management technology and know-how to solve Uzbekistan's water problems.

To run from May 10-21, the classes will utilize information and communications technology (ICT) to introduce Korea's comprehensive water management technology for managing floods, droughts and water quality; smart water management methods using ICT to manage the entire process of water supply from water purification plant to household; recommended examples of wastewater, water reuse and leak management; and smart city policy.

All classes are being held in a noncontact webinar format according to national policy toward quarantine for COVID-19.

K-water CEO Park Jae-Hyeon said, "Until now, we have mostly conducted with Uzbekistan cooperative projects in the water sector such as improving deteriorated water supply."

"Through this online education, we will expand cooperation to smart city water circulation to solve urban water problems and contribute to forming a network in a major partner country of the New Northern Policy."
