President Moon Jae-in on May 19 departed for Washington to attend his first face-to-face summit with U.S. President Joe Biden. 


President Moon began his three-day, five-night visit at Seoul Airbase in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do Province.

His official working visit is at the invitation of President Biden. 


In their upcoming talks, the two leaders will discuss bolstering the Korea-U.S. alliance, cooperating in COVID-19 vaccines and deepening bilateral collaboration for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. 


After arriving in Washington on the afternoon of May 19, President Moon on May 20 will officially begin his itinerary by visiting Arlington National Cemetery. He will later go to Capitol Hill to meet Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and members of Congress.

 

A meeting with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris is slated for May 21 at the White House. President Moon will then hold summit talks with President Biden and a joint news conference afterwards.

Later, President Moon will visit the Korean War Veterans Memorial to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Wall of Remembrance. 


He will fly to Atlanta on May 22 to visit a plant of the Korean company SK Innovation before wrapping up his U.S. visit. He will fly back to Seoul on May 23.
