President Moon Jae-in on May 19 arrived in Washington to attend a bilateral summit.
He arrived at Andrews Air Force Base near Morningside, Maryland, at 2 p.m. to begin his three-night, five-day visit.
The president will begin his itinerary on the morning of May 20 by visiting Arlington National Cemetery. Later that day, he will go to Capitol Hill to meet Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and members of Congress.
The next day, President Moon will hold summit talks with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House.
This will be their first face-to-face meeting. Both leaders held their first dialogue via videoconferencing on April 22 at the Leaders' Summit on Climate.
Presidents Moon and Biden will discuss solutions for achieving the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula based on the new U.S. policy toward North Korea and bolstered cooperation in COVID-19 vaccines.
A joint news conference will be held shortly after their summit. Later that day, President Moon will visit the Korean War Veterans Memorial to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Wall of Remembrance.
President Moon on May 22 will meet Washington Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the first African American cardinal, and then fly to Atlanta to visit a battery plant of the Korean company SK Innovation.
On the afternoon of May 23, the chief executive will arrive back at Seoul Airbase in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do Province.
