President Moon Jae-in on July 18 visited a temporary COVID-19 screening clinic near Samseong Station in Seoul's Gangnam-gu District and encouraged the staff there.
Looking around the clinic and lounge, he said he visited the site to directly observe the difficulties of medical staff working on the frontlines of responding to COVID-19 amid the sweltering summer heat.
The president asked the district's mayor Jung Soon-kyun and staff there to thoroughly prepare for the scorching heat, as the temperature is expected to near 40 degrees Celsius later this summer.
He also asked the staff to take all measures possible to allow people being tested for COVID-19 at screening clinics to avoid the heat, in addition to checking awning screens at the clinic.
Also at the clinic and lounge, President Moon observed the supply of ice vests and the lounge made from remodeled containers. He cited the necessity of stable air conditioning so that staff can truly rest during their breaks.
He said the frequent rotation of personnel is the most important thing to reduce staff exhaustion, adding that the government has taken care of additional workers for contract tracing other than police and military forces.
At the end of his visit, President Moon told the clinic staff that though times are tough, their commitment is helping the people get through this together, urging them to "definitely" overcome together this time.
