President Yoon Suk Yeol on July 5 said, "Korea's future will get brighter only with a higher number of creative women entrepreneurs and innovative businesswomen."
He was speaking at the inaugural Women Entrepreneurs' Week at KBIZ Hall of the Korea Federation of SMEs in the Yeouido area of Seoul's Yeongdeungpo-gu District.
With the Act on Support for Female-Owned Business revised in October last year, the first week of July was designated Women Entrepreneurs' Week.
"The number of women's businesses is increasing every year, and their startups already account for half of the startup total and are creating many jobs," the president said. "I think women's active economic activity and participation are the most powerful solutions to overcome ultra-low growth."
"Female entrepreneurs over the time have led the overcoming of crises and creation of new industries through strength and delicacy," he added. "The inaugural Women Entrepreneurs' Week that started today is a place for women entrepreneurs to confidently establish themselves as true economic agents."
President Yoon also pledged firm support for female-led businesses that constantly challenge themselves and to widely open the door of his presidential office in Seoul's Yongsan-gu District to expand communication with such companies.
At an exhibition hall for products manufactured by women-led companies, he examined health care products for pets, artificial intelligence solutions to treat infertility and eco-friendly bags for recycling. Moving on to a nursery products section, he listened to a briefing on a baby carrier for both the mother and her baby and tried on the item.
