President Yoon Suk Yeol on July 28 will host summit talks with Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the presidential office in Seoul's Yongsan-gu District.

National Security Office Director Kim Sung-han on July 25 announced the schedule of the upcoming talks to a news conference at the presidential office in Seoul's Yongsan-gu District.

"Through this summit, the two leaders will discuss bilateral cooperation measures in sectors like the defense industry, infrastructure and economic security," the director said. "In-depth discussions on key international issues are scheduled such as Korea's Indo-Pacific strategy and cooperation with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)."

"Indonesia is a key country that accounts for 41% of ASEAN's population and 34% of the region's GDP, and the only ASEAN state having a special strategic alliance with Korea," he added. "Indonesia is also taking part in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) with Korea and is a key country in the mineral supply chain."

"Considering this strategic importance of Indonesia, the Korean government has been striving to use bilateral relations as the driving force to bolster Korea-ASEAN ties," the director said. "We expect the upcoming visit to signal not just stronger bilateral ties but also the full-fledged beginning of the Yoon administration's 'ASEAN diplomacy.'"

President Widodo will visit Korea for two days from July 27 at the invitation of President Yoon. Ahead of the summit, the Indonesian leader will attend a meeting with Korean entrepreneurs and visit Hyundai Kia Namyang Technology Research Center in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do Province.
