Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on Aug. 9 said, "The government pledges full support until all scouts leave the country."
He said this at a meeting of the emergency response team for the 25th World Scout Jamboree at Government Complex-Seoul. "Jamboree scouts from today will participate in various programs in each region," he added. "We'll do our best to create the opportunity for them to feel K-Culture, referring to Korea's beauty."
He issued several requests to each institution to ensure the safety of Jamboree participants and for them to have fun.
"The safety and health of the participants are most important," he said, asking for occasional checks on them, immediate fulfillment of their requests and preemptive responses to risk factors.
"Please do your best in one-on-one management by group like immediate sharing of problems occurring on-site with the central government and deployment of interpreters and personnel for things ranging from accommodations to program experiences."
The prime minster also ordered relevant ministries and agencies to take meticulous measures including management of food safety, meal preparation considering participant traits such as halal food for Muslims; medical support; and stronger patrols near their lodging facilities.
With the year's sixth typhoon Khanun passing through the southern Japanese island of Kyushu and heading north toward the Korean Peninsula, he said, "Each local government should check from time to time the typhoon situation and conduct programs under the safety-first principle."
