The country from next year to 2027 will serve on the board of the Incheon-based Green Climate Fund (GCF) for a two-year term.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance on Nov. 21 said Korea was named to the GCF board at the 29th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, and as an alternate member in 2026.
This is the first time for the nation to secure such membership for two of a term's three years.
The ministry said, "Building on this expanded board tenure, the Korean government aims to strengthen its support for countries vulnerable to climate change, while working closely with relevant ministries to promote Korean businesses and professionals' active participation in GCF-related initiatives."
