A recently concluded bilateral agreement will raise cooperation in nuclear energy with Thailand.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul on March 21 said the governments of both countries held a signing ceremony in Bangkok for the accord on the peaceful use of nuclear power.

Ambassador to Thailand Park Yongmin and Thai Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Supamas Isarabhakdi that day formally signed the agreement.

Both countries are members of the International Atomic Energy Agency and signatories to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Stressing top priority on nuclear safety and environmental protection, Seoul and Bangkok concluded the deal to pursue social and economic development through the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

In a news release, the ministry said, "Based on its outstanding technical prowess in nuclear power, Korea will support the development of Thailand's nuclear power infrastructure, and Thailand will promote the development of industry and science and technology through boosting the peaceful use of nuclear power, and this will fuel mutually beneficial cooperation between both sides."
