The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 25 attended the AMCHAM (American Chamber of Commerce) Policy Talks on APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) 2025 at the office tower Two IFC in Seoul's Yeongdeungpo-gu District.

The ministry explained Korea's role and major activities as the chair country of this year's APEC Summit and offered a dialogue channel for expanding cooperation between the public and private sectors.

Hosted by AMCHAM in Seoul, the event saw some 50 executives from global companies including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Meta, Bloom Energy, Tesla and Expedia attend. They also expressed their interest in and willingness to cooperate with APEC.

Kim Jihee, the ministry's director-general for international economic affairs, described key tasks for Seoul in its capacity as chair of this year's APEC Summit.

Under the theme "Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper," she added that the focus is on producing practical results that companies in the Asia-Pacific region can feel.

Director-general Kim also requested active corporate participation in a dialogue slated for August on cooperation between the public and private sectors in artificial intelligence (AI) and response to demographic changes during the third senior officials' meeting of APEC.

U.S. business executives at the dialogue showed keen interest in Korea's key policy measures like cooperation in artificial intelligence and response to changes in population structure, expressing high expectations for business events during the APEC summit.

The ministry said, "Based on what we heard at the meeting, we plan to maintain close communication with APEC member companies so that private sector opinions can be faithfully reflected in the results of this year's APEC Summit."
