President Lee Jae Myung on July 15 sent official invitation letters to leaders of member countries of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to attend the APEC Summit slated to start in October in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.

His spokesperson Kang Yu-jung told a briefing that day, "Through his letter, President Lee informed APEC member states that this year's APEC Summit is scheduled from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1 and expressed his intent to invite them."

In the invitation, the president hailed APEC's contributions to sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region over the past 30 years.

The spokesperson added that the letter expressed President Lee's hope that the summit's theme of "Building a Sustainable Tomorrow" comes to fruition at the event, as the conference will discuss stronger regional connectivity and digital innovation.

APEC has 21 member states including Korea, the U.S. Japan, China and Russia.
