President Lee Jae Myung on Aug. 25 will attend his first summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington.

The talks will come 82 days since President Lee's inauguration on June 4.

Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung on Aug. 12 told a news briefing at the Office of the President in Seoul, "At the invitation of President Trump, President Lee from Aug. 24-26 will visit the U.S. for the bilateral summit on Aug. 25."

"Based on recently concluded tariff negotiations, both leaders are expected to discuss stronger economic cooperation including in manufacturing sectors like semiconductors, batteries and shipbuilding, as well as economic security cooperation in cutting-edge technologies and core minerals."

In their first in-person talks, both leaders will cover upgrading their bilateral alliance into a future-oriented comprehensive strategic alliance to respond to the changing global environment for security and economy.

President Lee will attend a working luncheon at the White House after the summit, with first lady Kim Hea Kyung to accompany him.
