President Lee Jae Myung on Aug. 23 will attend summit talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo.

Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung on Aug. 13 told a news briefing at the Office of the President in Seoul, "Prior to his trip to the U.S., President Lee will visit Japan from Aug. 23-24."

In Washington on Aug. 25, President Lee will hold summit talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and attend a working luncheon at the White House.

"We expect the summit to help both leaders further deepen their personal bond and relationship of trust," Spokesperson Kang said on President Lee's visit to Tokyo. "They will discuss not only boosting bilateral ties and trilateral cooperation with the U.S., but also peace and prosperity in the region and regional and global issues."

President Lee's visit to Japan is a follow-up of bilateral talks with Japan on June 17 at the Group of Seven Summit in Kananaskis, a district in Canada's Alberta province, where both leaders agreed to quickly resume shuttle diplomacy.

Since President Lee's trips to Japan and the U.S. are confirmed, the presidential office decided after review not to dispatch special envoys to both countries.
