President Lee Jae Myung in his first phone call with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh on Sept. 4 agreed to stimulate people-to-people exchanges, President Lee's spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a written briefing.

Both leaders mentioned considerable progress in bilateral cooperation in many sectors since diplomatic relations were formed in 1990, pledging to further strengthen their strategic partnership.

They also concurred that active people-to-people exchanges form a firm foundation for bilateral ties, and agreed to further boost such exchanges to open the next 35 years of relations based on close communication.

President Lee said, "Let us expand symbiotic cooperation between Mongolia, which has abundant mineral resources, and Korea, which possesses advanced technology."

In response, President Khurelsukh thanked President Lee for his strong interest and support for migrant workers in Korea including Mongolian expats.

President Lee added, "I welcome the opening of a memorial hall for Korean independence activist Lee Tae-joon (1883-1921), who practiced medicine in Mongolia and led the anti-Japanese movement there." He also thanked the Mongolian government for its support for the facility.
