President Lee Jae Myung and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Sept. 30 in a bilateral summit in Busan agreed to bolster cooperation to respond to the rapidly changing order in global trade and issues on the Korean Peninsula including denuclearization.
In 76 minutes of talks at Nurimaru APEC House in the city's Haeundae-gu District, both leaders hailed the resumption of shuttle diplomacy between both sides and pledged to continue two-way communication and cooperation.
They welcomed the launch of a joint consultative body for taking on common social issues, a follow-up measure to their bilateral summit in August, and pledged to build future-oriented relations.
President Lee explained his administration's efforts and policy initiatives to ease tension and build trust to resolve North Korea's nuclear issue and achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula, urging Japan's cooperation in that regard.
The two leaders agreed that both countries, as neighbors and global cooperation partners with similar stances, should jointly respond to the world's challenges amid the turbulent geopolitical climate and trade order.
