New visa types for occupations like construction equipment manufacturer and slaughterhouse worker are coming.

The Ministry of Justice on Oct. 10 announced this after approving six proposals from the economic and industrial sectors and local government at the second meeting of its visa and residence policy council on Sept. 23.

The proposals cover new visas for occupations like construction equipment maker and slaughterhouse worker; eased requirements for internships by international students with a graduate degree or Ph.D. in science and engineering; and launch of specialized activities for foreign students with the E-7-1 visa who complete specialized export training.

The ministry plans to hold regular meetings of the council at least twice a year.

Minister of Justice Jung Sung-ho said, "We will strive to set a balanced visa policy that promotes policies tangible for the economic and industrial sectors while considering social integration and national consensus."
