President Lee Jae Myung on Jan. 20 at Cheong Wa Dae in Seoul held phone talks with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Presidential spokesperson Kim Nam-joon said in a written news briefing that the second phone conversation between both leaders was held that evening, following their first in July last year.
"I expect to expand the scope of cooperation in various sectors including national defense, the defense industry, energy and infrastructure," the president said.
"Qatar's active role as a mediator in international conflicts including those in Middle East has drawn attention," he added, asking Doha to play a constructive role in ensuring global stability.
Emir Al Thani said, "Based on Qatar's trust and expectations toward Korea as a comprehensive strategic partner, Korea is greatly contributing to Qatar's national development."
Spokesperson Kim said both leaders agreed to meet in person in the near future to discuss bolstering bilateral cooperation.
