Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from Feb. 22-24 will make a state visit to Korea at the invitation of President Lee Jae Myung, Chong Wa Dae said on Feb. 12.

The trip will be the first by a Brazilian head of state in over two decades since President Lula came in 2005.

The two leaders on the morning of Feb. 23 will hold a bilateral summit as well as attend a signing ceremony for memorandums of understanding and a state dinner.

Both sides are expected to boost substantive cooperation in sectors like trade and investment, climate, energy, space, the defense industry, science and technology, agriculture, education and culture, and people-to-people exchanges to raise bilateral ties to another level.

In other news, Japan's Jiji Press on Feb. 12 said the governments of Korea and Japan are working to arrange a visit to Korea in March by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
