The country will cosponsor a resolution on human rights in North Korea with the United Nations (U.N.) Human Rights Council.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 28 said it "participated as a cosponsor in the resolution on human rights in North Korea through consultations with related government organizations based on the position of cooperating with the international community for the substantial improvement of human rights of the North Korean people."

The resolution will be adopted on March 30 at the council's session in Geneva.

From 2008-18, Seoul cosponsored the resolution at the council and the U.N. General Assembly but did not participate from 2019-22 under the Moon Jae-in administration. It returned from 2023-25 under President Yoon Suk Yeol.

In November last year, the incumbent Lee Jae Myung administration served as a cosponsor when the U.N. adopted the resolution.
