The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Qatar have reaffirmed their commitment to stable energy supply chains and agreed to expand cooperation in cutting-edge industries.

The ministry on June 15 said Minister Kim Jung-kwan, who is on a three-country tour of the Middle East, attended talks with Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, who is also CEO of QatarEnergy, at the public oil and gas company's headquarters in the Qatari capital of Doha.

Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing its supply to Korea of liquefied natural gas and condensate, a petrochemical feedstock. Minister Kim requested Doha's interest and support to help Korean companies join energy plant projects to be pursued after the war with Iran.

Minister Kim later attended talks with Qatari Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani on expanding bilateral cooperation in advanced industries like shipbuilding, biotechnology and robotics. They also discussed in depth Qatar's plans to invest in Korea's Manufacturing AI Transformation Alliance.

Both sides agreed to convene a bilateral strategic council, the control tower for bilateral economic cooperation, in Doha at an early date to jumpstart joint projects.
