Humanitarian assistance worth USD 10 million (KRW 15.4 billion) will go to help Palestinians displaced by the war in the Gaza Strip.

The Korean Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, said it held a launching ceremony in the Egyptian capital on June 29 for a project to support such people in Gaza and Egypt in cooperation with the Korean Red Cross and the Egyptian Red Crescent Society.

In his congratulatory speech, Ambassador to Egypt Kim Wan-joong said, "I highly commend Egypt's humanitarian efforts, which have delivered relief supplies and taken in some 1.3 million displaced people since the start of the war in October 2023."

He added that Seoul since 2023 has provided USD 14 million (KRW 21.6 billion) in assistance to the Egyptian Red Crescent Society.

The Red Cross bodies of the two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding on protecting and supporting displaced Palestinians in Gaza and Egypt.

Under the agreement, both organizations will conduct comprehensive relief projects this year for an estimated 1.03 million displaced Palestinians in Gaza and Egypt, including the provision of food and necessary supplies, temporary shelter, and health, medical and educational services.
