"Not just Squid Game"
To celebrate the great success of the Korean "Squid Game" series, the Korean Cultural Center organized the "Not Just Squid Game" event on December 16 and 17 with screenings of traditional Korean films and games.
For the occasion, the ground floor of the KCC underwent a themed "restyling" with the famous Korean series and the participants had the opportunity to try the traditional Korean games that appeared on "Squid Game". In addition to Dalgona, Gusulcighi and Takcicighi appeared on the Korean drama, Gonghinori has also been added. In addition to the games in the multifunctional hall of the Institute on the third floor, the films "Assasination" starring Lee Jung jae (protagonist in Squid Game) and "The Fortress" by Korean director Hwang Dong-hyuk were screened, the same note from Squid Game .
To try to carry out the event in maximum safety, the number of participants was limited who also had to book in advance online. Furthermore, the participants were divided into 3 groups at 3 different times to avoid excessive gatherings while also limiting the capacity for the screening of films to 60%.
Despite the public transport strike on December 16, 140 people of all age groups participated in the event who were able to enjoy and enjoy themselves by trying traditional Korean games. In addition, the participants who achieved the highest score trying the traditional games were given a set of Korean snacks as a prize.
All the participants did their utmost in all the games trying to overturn the opponent's Takgi or to complete the Dalgona mold without breaking it, as in the famous Korean series.
All the participants enthusiastically welcomed and evaluated the event. Antonio who attended the event said "it was fun to try the games seen in the drama. He will also teach my children the traditional games that I have tried." instead Federico, another participant, commented "I wanted to try the games seen on Squid Game and I attended the event. I also learned something more about Korea and its traditions. In the future I would like to try to find other Korean movies or TV series from see and learn more about this country. " finally Naomi, always another participant said "It is not easy to see or experience Korea in Italy and I was happy to participate in this event which was a great opportunity to get closer to Korean Culture".
The Director of the KCC Oh Choong Suk concluded by saying "due to Covid-19 all the activities in presence at the headquarters of our Institute had been suspended and this was a good opportunity to restart and open the activities in presence to the public. In addition, the participants were able to try the traditional Korean games that appeared in the Korean series "Squid Game" being able to also see high quality films starring Lee Jung Jae or directed by Hwang Dong Hyuk, thus being able to learn more about Korea and its culture. Our Institute will monitor the situation well pandemic and will evaluate accordingly how to continue the promotion of Korean Culture ".
