The Korean Cultural Center of Brussels organized during November a Traditional Korean Fan Dance (Buchaechum) workshop at CENTR'AL in Brussels.
For those who don’t know, Buchaechum is a new dance created in the 20th century based on traditional dance moves, the history and the culture of South Pyongan Province.
In order to achieve the unique artistic and aesthetic technique that is so characteristic of this dance, a group of dancers use large fans painted with pink peony blossoms to create various formations.
This course was given by SEO Minseong who graduated from Korea National University of Arts in Dance and has participated in various projects in Korea, China, Australia and Europe that promotes traditional Korean dance, traditional and contemporary art. She is currently the director of Berlin Korean Dance Project and Cofounder of DOT Art Collective in Berlin, Germany.
After two weeks of training 14 students showed what they have learned and gave an impressive performance to friends and family. The beauty and elegance of the dance was emphasized by the excitement and the proud expressions on the faces of the dancers who were dressed in bright colored traditional Korean clothing.
