The Korean Cultural Center in Thailand held a "Walk and Talk Thru the Museum" at the National Museum Bangkok on February 17, 2023, by inviting 100 museum parties from across Thailand.
The National Museum of Thailand, in cooperation with the National Museum of Korea, opened the exhibition "A New Encounter: Immersive Gallery Of Korean Art" last November.
The ceremony started with a Jindo drum dance performance by Jeon Min-ji, a traditional music instructor of the KCC, followed by a congratulatory speech by H.E. Mr. Moon Seoung-hyun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand, and an opening remark by Mr. Phanombootra, Deputy Director General of the Fine Arts Department.
H.E. Mr. Moon Seoung-hyun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand state that he is interested in traditional cultural heritage a little more than K-pop and hopes that cultural and artistic exchanges between the two countries will become more active in the future, including the Korean gallery at the National Museum Bangkok.
Afterwards, Mr. Phanombootra, Deputy Director General of the Fine Arts Department, expressed his gratitude to H.E. Mr. Moon Seoung-hyun and the Korea Cultural Center for preparing traditional Korean performances and activities, along with the hope that museum officials would learn Korean art and culture and strengthen their network.
There was a lecture about cultural products that were extended from the national heritage by Mr. Cho Jae-il, Director of the Korean Cultural Center, introducing two reasons why Korean young generations these days are interested in traditional culture.
First of all, there's a using of Hanbok, traditional music and dace by K-pop idol groups such as Blackpink and BTS in there performance. Second, there are cultural products from the National Museum of Korea that reflect the tastes and needs of the younger generation.
The traditional cultural products of the National Museum of Korea are popular among the younger generations by producing various cultural products with a modern sense, such as Gilt-bronze Maitreya in Meditation.
On this, the museum's cultural product sales have increased 11 times since 2015, and in 2022, the total sales were 11.7 billion won, and 30–40% of the total sales were told to be from the 20–30s.
Following the lecture, museum officials used the Q&A session to share various information by asking questions about cultural products.
The attendees showed great interest by taking pictures of popular cultural products displayed in the museum, such as the mood lamp, dolls, and griptok, and showed and great interest toward the products.
Lastly, Jeong Eun-gyu, Korean folk painting instructor at KCC, introduced the meaning of folk painting and representative works such as "Peony" and "Chaekgado," and participants had a meaningful time coloring peonies themselves.
