Events at KCCs abroad

The Korean Cultural Centre Australia (KCCAU) held a painting workshop decorating a Korean word '하모니' meaning Harmony with a children's book author/illustrator Myo Lim, in order to commemorate Harmony Day at the Burwood Library on Tuesday, 21st March. Harmony Day, designated by the Australian government in 1999, is a day to celebrate Australia's multiculturalism.

This workshop was organised in collaboration with the Burwood Library run by the local Council. Myo Lim published her debut picture book in Australia in 2021 titled Rajah Street, and has worked on numerous local authors' illustrations, such as White Sunday and Dorothy

Participants learned how to use Korean traditional painting techniques similar to Minhwa and completed their works by decorating the word flowers, insects, animals, and more. Diane Heldt, a Hangeul enthusiast who took part in the workshop with a Hangeul alphabet printed t-shirt, who is also learning Korean online said "I'm so happy to be able to read the Korean word for harmony that I decorated today, and I think Korean culture is fun and charming."

The KCCAU is to continue to collaborate with various local government bodies and cultural organisations to provide further opportunities for Australian to experience Korean culture.
