In quick succession, global powerhouses like France, Canada and the United Kingdom have began to form their respective Indo-Pacific Strategies, a phenomenon uncommon before. This is a telling sign of the Indo-Pacific’s importance and present-day volatilities.
For those unaware, an Indo-Pacific Strategy is a geopolitical construct that outlines how a country is to engage with nations situated along the Indian, Western and Pacific Oceans. It contains the framework for political, economic and security engagement based on the values, principles and vision of the author country.
Global peace and prosperity depends on a stable Indo-Pacific region. This is because the region is home to 65 percent of the world’s population and constitutes 62 percent of global GDP. More than two-thirds of world trade passes through Indo-Pacific waters.
