The Embassy of the Republic of Korea (Embassy, Charge d'affaires: Mr. Ham, Jeonghan) and the Korean Cultural Center (Center, Director: Mr. Cho, Jae Il) in Thailand hosted the opening ceremony of Thai-Korea Friendship Trail at the Haeunarok Fall Trail in the Khaoyai National Park on 24th Nov.
The event promotes the completion of Thai-Korea Friendship Trail, the new trail of the park to commemorate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relationship and the 10th anniversary of a strategic partnership of Korea and Thailand.
The Embassy and the Center renovated the trail from 2022 under the cooperation with the Korea National Park Service and the department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation in Thailand. Renovations works included removing old facilities, replacing of old bridges and shelters, and painting of the observatory and stair railings, setting up the new trail entrance containing the image of Korea, such as Korean square pavilion, traditional gate, stone wall, Sotdae (traditional pole) and paving work. This is the fifth 'Friendship trail' with the foreign country in Khao Yai next to U.S., Swiss, Germany and Canada, and the first trail as the Asian country.
More than 100 guests attended at the opening ceremony, not only Korean governmental agencies, and companies in Thailand, but also the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Prachinburi Province and AMATA Corporation.
The event started with the performance 'Gilnori', a Korean-style traditional parade with musical instruments, wishing well being of all event participants.
Mr. Ham, Jeonghan, Charge d'affaires of the Korean Embassy said, "I hope exchange of cooperation between Korea and Thailand create more synergy effect like 'Thai-Korea Friendship Trail', which beautiful natural scenery of Thailand harmonize with the beauty of Korea" by his opening speech. Mr. Songkiat Tatayanont, Deputy Director General of the department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation read a congratulatory message in response.
After the ribbon cutting, 'Ginori', a Korean-style traditional parade with flags was performed with both country's national flags.
The participants walked in the trail together, and experienced Korean craft (making bracelet using traditional knot) prepared by the Center.
Mr. Cho, Jae Il, the director of the Center said, "The Haeunarok Fall Trail is the most popular trail in the Park by its beautiful scenery. I hope many people visit 'Thai-Korea Friendship Trail' in near future."
