The event started with H.E. After that, the elders of both countries, such as H.E. Mr. Park Yong-min, Korean war veteran and president of the Korean Association in Thailand received a bow from Thai students and children of war veterans. Then the elders rewarded this 'Sebae' by giving New Year's gift money along with words of blessing to their junior.
H.E. Mr. Park Yong-min presented scholarships in the form of red envelopes to the children of war veterans and said "During the Korean War in 1950, Thailand sent soldiers, sailors and air force men around 6,300 people to fight for Korea's freedom. The relationship between Korea and Thailand is therefore like a family. With the veterans in attendance today witnessing that relationship. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone once again.”
After finishing the Sebae ceremony Cultural experts from the Sejong Institute's '2023 King Sejong Culture Academy' together with Mr. Cho Jae-il, Director of the Korean Cultural Center performed Korean folk songs such as Festival, Holo Arirang and Arirang. Participants including war veterans sang along to Arirang, a song well known to Thais during the Korean War.
During the event, there were activities such as Korean traditional plays (Yut Nori, Neolttwigi, Tuho, Jegichagi), making rice cakes, and traditional Hanbok clothing experiences. After that, students of the Korean Cultural Center's Samulnori course performed a Gilnori to Take attendees to watch Korean folk music performances and singing contests at Korean Town.
The event at Korean Town started with cultural experts singing Binari, a song that wishes for hope in the new year, Traditional song performances named 'Heungbo-Ga' by Ms. Chae Soo-jung, and Pansori performances by Ms. Park Hye-ryun. After that, there's a Korean song-singing contest.
In addition, attendees also ate Tteokguk and Injeolmi. To enhance good fortune on New Year's Day as well.
