“Celebrating "Hanbok Day" in California”

The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (KCCLA, Director Sangwon Jung), in collaboration with Korean American Muse (KAM, President Min Cho), proudly hosted the special exhibition Hanbok, Soaring to New Heights from November 7 to November 29, 2024, at the KCCLA Art Gallery (5505 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA).

This exhibition celebrated the first anniversary of “Hanbok Day” in California, highlighting Hanbok's history, elegance, and cultural significance. It explored Hanbok’s evolution within Korean-American history, featuring transformed and contemporary pieces, Minhwa-inspired designs, traditional accessories (binyeo, norigae, jokduri, jobawi), and Bojagi (wrapping cloth) art.

Over 130 attendees , including figures from local and Korean communities, gathered for the opening ceremony. The highlight of the evening was a Hanbok fashion show, where 10 models showcased 24 breathtaking Hanbok designs, enchanting the audience with their grace and beauty.

KCCLA's website and social media shared a video recap of the exhibition and fashion show, allowing broader audiences to appreciate the event.

The exhibition commemorated California’s “Hanbok Day” and served as a meaningful opportunity to introduce the artistry and timeless value of Hanbok to American society. It celebrated the philosophy and aesthetics embedded in Korea’s rich cultural heritage.
