The U.S. city of Los Angeles has declared August seventh as “Kim Yu-na Day.”
The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution that seeks to present the Korean figure skater with honorary citizenship and another that aims to designate August seventh, 2010 as “Kim Yu-na Day.”
Councilmember Herb Wesson, who submitted the resolutions, said that they aim to recognize the Olympic gold medalist’s achievements and the tremendous source of pride she has instilled in the Korean-American community.
Kim is scheduled to visit L.A. on Saturday to receive the “Proud Koreans Award" given out by the Korean-American Leadership Foundation.
