For classical music lovers in the Washington DC area, knowing that world renowned violinist Sarah Chang will be performing at the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra this April 28, 29, and 30 is sure to bring excitement. Chang, age 30, has already won praise since a young age for her magnificent performances across the globe with major orchestras.
The Times of London has said of her that, “She can shade her violin a thousand ways, and with lightning speed too.”
Chang is considered by many to be one of the world’s most captivating and gifted violinists, having debuted in 1989 with the New York Philharmonic at age 8 and soon after with the Philadelphia Orchestra at age 9.
This Korean American child prodigy graduated from the Julliard School at age 19 and has continued performing internationally with the top professional orchestras, composers, and accompanists from around the world. Chang has collaborated with such artists as YoYo Ma, Pinchas Zukerman, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and the late Isaac Stern.
In 2006, Chang was recognized as one of the top 20 most powerful and influential women in the world by Newsweek Magazine, and she has also been honored by the World Economic Forum for her contributions to music, society, and her positive influence.
Her worldwide recognition has resulted in extensive touring, and her 2010/11 schedule includes appearances in the United States, England, Canada, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Romania, and Austria, plus regular performances in South Korea and much of Asia.
