Events at KCCs abroad

The Korean Cultural Centre (KCC) Australia and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in collaboration with the Anzac Memorial presents a number of special programs in June 2020 to recognise and remember ‘Australians in the Korean War 1950–53’ on the occasion of this year’s 70th anniversary of the Korean War.

1. ‘LEST KOREA FORGET’ SYDNEY LIGHT RAIL CAMPAIGN
22 June – 26 July 2020

We are featuring eight Australian veterans who served in the Korean War (1950-53) on the Sydney light rail from the 22nd of June. This Light Rail campaign will be a new discovery and introduction of relatively lesser-known Australian veterans which include Grace Bury who served as a nursing sister, Brian Cooper who showed outstanding leadership in the Battle of the Samichon River at the age of 20, and Steve Dodd who was the first Aboriginal to sign up from South Australia to go to Korea.

2. ‘AUSTRALIANS IN THE KOREAN WAR 1950-53’ ONLINE EXHIBITION
22 June until the end of 2020

This online exhibition is designed to reflect on the significance of the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War, and to remember the ‘forgotten faces’ of Australian Korean War veterans. A total of 21 veterans were selected by historian and curator of the Anzac Memorial Bradley Manera to tell the stories of their beautiful comradeship and noble spirit of sacrifice. Due to COVID-19, it will be released online first, and an offline exhibition will be held in the future.
