A woman (Cha Soo-yeon) who becomes someone else every night. A cop (Cho Jin-woong) whose life is suddenly, irrevocably altered. Actor Jung Jinyoung's striking debut feature as writer/director is a true original: thoroughly entertaining - and intriguing - from start to finish, while too enigmatic to accommodate easy categorisation.
Me and Me starts as a mysterious small-town romance, then shifts perspective to a police investigation, before finally becoming a more transcendent, universal allegory of the way we all have, every day, to live with loss, to relearn the world, and to appreciate whatever in it is ‘so nice’. As the title implies, identity is all at once key to what is going on, but also something fluid and multiple, as characters either themselves metamorphose into others, or else find the rest of the world transforming around them into an alternative universe. It is a metempsychotic mystery of cyclical change, where Buddhism meets Lynch. (AB)
