Cooperation MOU on the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project Technology signed with Peru

The Office of National River Restoration (Minister: Shim Myung-pil) of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs of the Republic of Korea announced that on October 16, 2012, Korea signed an MOU with Peru on river restoration and water resources management cooperation.
This signing of the MOU was initiated by Peru, a country that had been deeply interested in Korea's Four Major Rivers Restoration project, and it is the fourth such MOU Korea signed regarding technical cooperation related to the Four Rivers Project with other countries, following the ones with Morocco (March 26), Paraguay (May, 29), and Thailand (August, 14).
This MOU came into being at the request of Peru for cooperation with Korea on transfer of Korean technology to benchmark Korea's successful experience of its Four Rivers Project in order to solve the water issues in Peru, as it suffers from severe deterioration of water quality and the lack of enough water in its rivers including the Rimac River.
This MOU was jointly signed with the Ministry of Agriculture, and the National Water Authority and at the signing ceremony, 15 high ranking Peruvian officials attended the event, including Peruvian Minister of Agriculture, head of the National Water Authority, and Deputy Mayor of Lima.
Following the signing of the MOU, Minister Shim explained and discussed the technologies utilized at the Four Rivers project, and also delivered a presentation on the overview of the project itself, at a session attended by about 200 civil servants working in the water resources field in Peru.
The Office of National River Restoration of the MLTM said that the numerous accomplishments of the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project, as it nears its final stage, are drawing more and more attention from the international community, giving rise to a flurry of technical cooperation requests from countries located in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
The Office of National River Restoration of the MLTM added that based on its water management capacity built through the Four Rivers Restoration Project, it will exert utmost efforts to make Korea one of the leading countries in the world in the water management field in this era of climate change, and for this purpose, it will continue to actively pursue international cooperation.
