[Relevant National Task] 28-2. Challenging K-Space with Our Own Technology
The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA, Administrator Taeseog Oh) held a 4th
Aerospace SOS Consultative Meeting on April 29 at Naro Space Center in Goheung, Jeollanam-do Province, with leading space transportation companies, including INNOSPACE, Perigee Aerospace, Unastella, KEIMASH, Hyundai Rotem, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).
The meeting featured a site tour of the under-construction commercial launch site, followed by a session to listen to policy recommendations from leading domestic companies preparing for commercial launch services.
While the Naro Space Center has historically been reserved for operating major national launch vehicles − such as the Naro (KSLV-I) and Nuri (KSLV-II) − it is scheduled to open to the private sector starting next year upon the completion of the dedicated commercial facilities. In preparation, KASA and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) are developing preliminary guidelines and standard operating procedures to ensure that private enterprises can utilize the center's facilities and equipment smoothly and safely.
Participating companies openly shared the challenges they have faced due to the lack of domestic land-based launch infrastructure, which previously forced them to seek overseas or sea-based launch options. They expressed high expectations for the opening of the Naro Space Center and suggested various practical measures, including the simplification of administrative procedures and expanded technical support.
"We will actively incorporate the valuable on-site feedback provided by experts and industry leaders into our future policies," said Administrator Taeseog Oh. "KASA remains committed to ensuring that the Naro Space Center evolves into a reliable partner for the growth of the space transportation industry."
