The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) held an on-site meeting at the Hyundai Motor Group(HMG)

Uiwang R&D Center, attended by Chairperson Kyung Hee Song and PIPC commissioners. During the visit,

the HMG Uiwang R&D Center showcased its robotics technologies, and the PIPC delegation had the opportunity to

solicit opinions from robotics industry practitioners about industry-wide challenges.

Entering into an era where robotics and other emerging technologies, including autonomous driving robots,

AI-based image recognition, and others, have become increasingly embedded into day-to-day life, the PIPC’s site

visit to the HMG R&D Center aimed at preemptively identifying and addressing challenges arising from compliance

with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and gathering feedback from stakeholders in the robotics industry.

During the visit, Chairperson Song and the commissioners toured the HMG Robotics Lab and observed

cutting-edge robotics technology demonstrations, including industrial wearable robots, autonomous driving robot platforms,

parking robots, and electric vehicle automatic charging robots.

After the HMG gave a brief overview of how they collect data from camera feeds and process it, Chairperson Song and the commissioners focused on reviewing data processing practices in the robotics industry.

Following the technology demonstration, the on-site meeting was held between the PIPC delegation and HMG executives

and staff members.
