 121 heroes are honored for their contributions to Korea’s independence, including three activists from Cuba and one from Hawaii, eleven participants of the March 1st Movement from the Won family in Wonju, and twelve participants of the Righteous Army. This year's awards recognize 121 individuals: 3 with the Order of Merit for National Foundation, 35 with the Order of Merit for Patriotism, 10 with the National Medal, and 73 with the Presidential Citation. Since the first awards in 1949, a total of 18,139 individuals have been honored, including 11,776 with the Order of Merit for National Foundation, 1,529 with the National Foundation Medal, and 4,834 with the Presidential Citation.
