S. Korea Expands an Entry of Its Agricultural Inputs into the Market of Thailand through an Export Delegation
Sejong, 24 June 2025 — On 23 June, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) sent a Korean export delegation, consisting of 15 Korean exporters of agricultural machinery, equipment, and inputs, to the Kingdom of Thailand. For a period of 23–27 June, the delegation will showcase quality Korean-made agricultural inputs to prospective buyers there and help develop a market for Korean exports.
The agricultural input exporters consist of fertilizer producers, agricultural machinery makers, agricultural materials and equipment makers, animal feed producers, agricultural chemicals producers, and agricultural seed producers.
Since 2018, the MAFRA has sent an export delegation overseas to provide opportunities for exporters of agricultural inputs to enter overseas markets and increase their exports. To this end, the MAFRA has provided business support in diverse aspects such as meetings with local government officials, holding a business meeting for export, investigation of the latest local market trends, etc.
In 2024, a Korean export delegation to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam had business meetings about exports worth USD 17.6 million and 14 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth USD 7.3 million.
Thailand is emerging as an important market and opportunity for Korean companies as the value of its imports of agricultural machinery, equipment, and inputs hit USD 150 million in 2024, up by 30% from 2023.
Thailand’s government has been increasing agricultural mechanization and promoting the use of eco-friendlier inputs, as well as has been active in adoption of smart farming technologies to enhance the sustainability and productivity in agriculture. Accordingly, local buyers are taking special interest in products designed and produced to respond to environmental regulations (e.g. eco-friendlier products), products to reduce manpower, and products with high quality and safety.
For a two-day period of 24–25 June in Thailand, the MAFRA will hold a business meeting for export where 15 Korean companies will sit together with 47 prospective buyers from Thailand, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries for business talks.
The MAFRA invited buyers from not only Thailand but also other Southeast Asian countries and equipped participating Korean companies with information about market trends in Thailand, strategies for business talks with overseas buyers, and export success stories so that they could produce the best results from the business meetings. The MAFRA also conducted individual interviews with invited buyers in advance, regarding their demands and purchase intentions, and then analyzed their answers and shared the results with the Korean participants.
On 26 and 27 June, the export delegation will visit Thailand’s agriculture-related government agencies to obtain information on Thailand’s agricultural policies and its regulations and procedures related to importing agricultural machinery, equipment, and inputs. The delegation will also visit distribution companies owned by local buyers to understand local distribution structures, major import channels, demand for Korean products, and other aspects of the Thai market.
In the second half of this year, the MAFRA will continue to support the development of overseas markets to help increase the exports of Korean agricultural machinery, equipment, and inputs by holding a business meeting for export in Korea, opening exhibition booths for Korean companies at international trade fairs overseas, and sending export delegations abroad.
