As a result of imposing punitive sanctions, such as suspension of driver's licenses, against culpable people for defaulting on owed child support, the positive effect on child support payments is taking shape, such as full payment* of owed child support.

* Full payment: 1 person with publicly disclosed name for, 4 people with overseas departure bans, 9 people with suspended driver's licenses

Especially, in January 2023, there was a case where the total amount owed of KRW 125.6 million was paid in full, allowing for an overseas departure ban and publicly disclosed name to be lifted.

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s Family Policy Bureau, Kim Sookja said, "From last year, we have improved the convenience for child support beneficiaries and the transparency of the sanctions procedures by reinforcing information on the implementation procedures after making requests for punitive measures."

"Going forward, we plan to strengthen monitoring, such as information on the system, so that child support obligors are forced to pay child support more willingly," she stated further.
