- Open forum with academia, industry, and research institutes explores ways to secure national strategic technologies and build a robust ecosystem amid intensifying global competition

The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister Bae Kyunghoon) announced that Park In Kyu, Vice Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, participated in the “Open Forum on Advancing the National Strategic Technology Framework,” hosted by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST, Acting President Kim Min-soo), on September 18.

Amid intensifying global competition for technological supremacy, the Korean government has designated national strategic technologies that are vital to safeguarding technological sovereignty and is scaling up R&D investment to nurture them. The government is also updating the national strategic technology framework to reflect the latest advances in science and technology and to align more strategically with national missions.

The forum, convened by KOFST, served as a platform for open discussion with researchers from academia, industry, and research institutes. Presentations covered recent trends in global technology competition and scientific advancement, followed by in-depth discussions among domain experts.

At the event, Park In Kyu, Vice Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, emphasized:
“Securing national strategic technologies is key to achieving ‘genuine growth’ through innovation. The government will work closely with academia, industry, and research institutes to cultivate and strengthen an ecosystem that identifies and fosters core technologies and future growth engines.”
