Hahm Hee-eunTeam Korea won two gold medals, four silver medals and four bronze medals on Aug. 26, collecting a total of 10 medals on the ninth day of the Asian Games 2018 Jakarta-Palembang.
Jung Hyelim received the first gold medal in athletics in the women’s 100 m hurdles. This was her third time participating in the Asian Games, and she was able to win gold for the first time in eight years, making Korean athletics history.
In women’s canoeing, the unified Korean team had a time of 2 minutes 24.788 seconds in the canoe TBR 500 m finals, defeating China by just 0.304 seconds, on Aug. 26. This is the first time in history where a unified Korean team wins gold in an international sporting tournament. The flag of unified Korea, with a white background and a sky-blue Korean Peninsula in the center, was held up high at the Asian Games, and the Korean folk song "Arirang" filled the stadium during the awards ceremony.
In climbing, Chon Jongwon ranked No. 2 in the Speed category, No. 1 in the Bouldering race, and No. 3 in the Lead event, winning a total of six points, to become the first champion in the sport of men’s combined climbing at the Asian Games.
At the end of Day 9, Korea has 27 gold medals, 30 silver medals and 37 bronze medals, and remains in third place on the medals table at the 2018 Asian Games.
