Korea is seeing the spread of the COVID-19 slowing and many confirmed cases have made a full recovery. This is thanks to the Korean government's swift implementation of mass testing, commendable transparency, and the cooperation and participation of the Korean people.
Speaking of cooperation, my Korean friend who works at Goryeong Elderly Nursing Facility in Goryeong-gun County, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, has been posting updates of what's being done to help fight the outbreak. Because the elderly are more vulnerable to the coronavirus, the facility's staff has teamed up to hand sew protective cotton masks for elderly residents of the county struggling to purchase masks. Buying masks is challenging not only in Korea but also in other COVID-19-affected countries.
With such senior citizens in mind, the staff sewed 300 masks over two weeks without expecting anything in return. I highly commend them for their selfless act. I might not know all of them by name but want the world to know of their charity, so this is my tribute to them.
To the staff at Goryeong Elderly Nursing Facility, thank you for your dedication. Thank you for showing us that we needn't be a millionaire to help others. All we need is empathy.
