The U.S. business magazine Forbes on July 9 said Korea ranks ninth in an index of the world's "most attractive spots" for venture capital and private equity investments.

Forbes said the index was designed and elaborated by IESE Business School’s Center for International Finance in Spain in conjunction with EmLyon Business School in France and the international finance consulting company eXapital.

The index ranked 125 countries based on the quality of their investment environment for venture capital and private equity investors.

Six factors determined the rankings: economic activity, depth of capital markets, taxation, investor protections and corporate governance, human and social environment, and entrepreneurial culture and deal opportunities.

The U.S. topped the list with a score of 100, followed by the U.K. (90.3) and Japan (87.4).

Korea (ninth) entered the top ten for the first time along with France (tenth) and China (seventh).

On the top ten list, Forbes said, "All top-ranked countries are expected to make swift recoveries from the pandemic related recession."
