A webtoon-themed calendar featuring the charms of Korean culture has been released to the world.

The Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS), an affiliate of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, on Nov. 5 announced the distribution of its official 2022 calendar for promoting Korea overseas. The calendar was created in collaboration with 12 rising stars in webtoons.

Korean webtoons have gained huge popularity not only in Asia such as Korea and Japan, but throughout the world including the U.S. and Europe thanks to their creative storylines and art.

To mark this trend, KOCIS chose the theme "Evolving into a Global Phenomenon and Part of Everyday Life" for the calendar and selected 12 up-and-coming webtoonists to highlight the country's image as a cultural powerhouse through webtoons.

Webtoonists Gosha and Solem drew the illustration for November under the theme "Flavor of Korea: Hansik."

The calendar uses the unique sensibility of Korean webtoons to lively express the country's traditions and Hallyu (Korean Wave) and offer a visual feast to foreign viewers. The QR code at the bottom of each page connects to the other webtoons of the artists.

The calendar can be downloaded on the official websites of Korea.net, the Korean government's official multilingual portal, and KOCIS (www.kocis.go.kr).

KOCIS Director Park Jung-Youl said, "Despite the pandemic, Korea's diversity of cultural content delivers joy and consolation to the world," adding, "Through this webtoon-themed calendar, I hope that more countries enjoy Korean webtoons and discover other aspects of Korean culture."
