This year's "Korea Art Week" will run through Sept. 11 at some 290 exhibition venues nationwide.
Under the theme "Republic of Korea's Love Affair with Art," the event features exhibitions of the works of promising domestic artists at nine private museums in line with this year's editions of the art shows Kiaf Seoul and Frieze Seoul, two events expected to attract over 10,000 figures from the global art market.
"Dialog: Mind Map," an exhibition featuring 13 outstanding artists from the Korea Arts Management Service, will run through Sept. 9 at the flagship store of eco-friendly furniture company Plant Lance in the hip Seongsu-dong neighborhood of Seoul's Seongdong-gu District.
"Panorama," an exhibition featuring 16 domestic artists from different generations whose works explore a range of themes and media, will run through Oct. 28 at the art gallery Song Eun in the capital's Gangnam-gu District.
This year's event has expanded its reach beyond art museums to enhance accessibility by being held at venues with high floating populations including airports, department stores and libraries. For example, the digital art exhibition "In Sync" to run until Oct. 22 at Incheon International Airport features 11 next-generation artist teams.
"Art Travel," which visitors picked as their favorite part of last year's event, will be held on a grander scale this year. A walking tour of museums and galleries with a professional guide is available on 22 courses in seven regions nationwide, with tours for expats and the socially vulnerable also prepared.
Programs for disabled people include sign language interpretation for hearing impaired visitors at Whanki Museum, Gyeongnam Art Museum, Jeonnam Museum of Art and Anyang Art Park.
