K-pop will shower the world with its influence again on the world's biggest sports stage and through commemorative stamps.
BTS on July 19 will perform at the halftime show of the final of the FIFA World Cup soccer finals in North America at New Jersey Stadium in New York. FIFA, soccer's global governing body, and Global Citizen, a New York-based international civic group in charge of producing the show, announced this on May 14.
This will be the first time for a World Cup final to have a halftime show. Chris Martin of Coldplay will direct it and BTS will share the stage with global pop superstars Madonna and Shakira.
The performance will benefit the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
BTS said, "Music is the universal language of hope and harmony, and we're honored to celebrate that power at the World Cup by connecting with millions of viewers around the world in support of children's education."
Lisa from the girl group BLACKPINK will also appear at World Cup. She confirmed her performance at the opening ceremony of the June 12 opening game between the U.S. and Paraguay in Los Angeles.
This commemorative stamp set featuring the K-pop girl group BLACKPINK will be released this year.
Stamps honoring BLACKPINK's contributions to the global spread of K-pop and elevation of Korean pop culture are also coming.
The Korea Post, an affiliate of the Ministry of Science and ICT, said the stamps will go on sale on June 16 at post offices nationwide and online. It said BLACKPINK was selected in recognition of its contributions to raising the status of Korean pop culture worldwide.
Pre-sales end at midnight on May 15 on the website of the Korea Post Stamp Overseas Sales Mall (https://koreastamp.or.kr) and YG Select. Commemorative stamp packets to also go on sale will feature the stamps and portraits of BLACKPINK members.
Commemorative stamps are issued after deliberation by the Stamp Issuance Deliberation Committee of the Korea Post to honor historical figures, events or national projects.
